Another movie off of my Netflix DVD queue and another movie I don't remember adding to it in the first place or why. Perhaps it was mentioned in an AV Club post or by somebody on YouTube. At any rate Amazon had The Sweet Hereafter available for streaming on Prime, so I sat down and …

Indian Summer
I have a soft spot in my heart for reunion flicks. This isn't recent, by the way. Even as far back as my early twenties, when Grosse Pointe Blank and Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion came out, I loved any chance to watch a solid cast get together and pretend like they'd known one …
Jersey Guy
Is it embarrassing to say that I only saw this movie because one of the actress in it was one of my first "celebrity crushes"? Some explanation, I guess. I started watching Degrassi Junior High when I was in fifth grade and kept up with it almost to the end--when WNET 13 moved the show …
Testament
I turned six years old in 1983 and my parents did a pretty good job at sheltering me from the violence of the real world. All I knew from violence was Star Wars and the cartoons that I was watching before and after school. I had no idea that in the early 1980s, America was …
The Invitation
So this was a movie that I'd had in the queue for a couple of years because I'd seen a trailer for it on IMDb (as you do) and it looked like a good, creepy horror movie. The premise is that Will (Logan-Marshall Green) and his new girlfriend Kira (Emayatzy Corinealdi) are invited to a …
Transformers: The Movie
Does my '80s kid card get revoked if I tell you that I honestly cannot remember when I first saw this movie? I'm serious. This film came out on August 8, 1986 and I know I did not see it in the theater on opening weekend (more than likely, we were doing something centered around …
Quickie Movie Reviews
I've watched so many movies in the last few weeks of my summer break that I'm having problems keeping track of them all and I'm also having trouble keeping up with my mandate to review what I've been watching. So I decided that I'd do a post with quickie movie reviews. If I own the …
Justice League
I'd been avoiding this film for a while. Mind you, it wasn't deliberate at first. I believe that when this came out, I had intended to see it in the theater but life got in the way of such things and I never got the chance. I figured I'd wait for it to come out …
Cloverfield
A found footage monster movie that had a big budget when some of the more notable found footage flicks are filmed on a low budget, Cloverfield is a 2008 film that takes the familiar premise of a monster attacking a city (a la Godzilla) and tells it from the point of view of a group …
The Spectacular Now
I will fully admit that when I saw this on the DVD queue (and also saw that it was available for streaming), I was puzzled because I don't know what prompted me to put it there. I mean, I remember putting it there and maybe it was because someone recommended it to me or I …
