The Uncollecting Update March 2024

As always, let’s start with the numbers …

Physical Comics Read: 0 (31/41)
Digital Comics Read: 0 (471/471)
Trades/Graphic Novels Read: 1 (0/0)
Books Read: 3 (87/100)
Movies Watched: 0 (194/194)
TV Series Watched: 0 (49/49)
TV Seasons Watched: 0 (94/95)
Podcast Episodes Remaining: 83

Quick confession time: I have no idea if those numbers are accurate because at some point last month, I’d stopped logging. It wasn’t on purpose and I didn’t realize it until yesterday when I went to count up the number of podcasts that were left on my iPod. I think I watched a movie this month but can’t seem to remember what, and I am pretty sure I grabbed a back issue or two and read them, but my memory is cloudy. Even now, I’m having a hard time thinking of what to write in this space aside from giving numbers.

I’m on spring break this week; naturally, it’s going to rain half the time. But maybe I’ll actually throw in one of these movies or knock out a few television episodes? Breaks like these can be weirdly complicated because you should be relaxing yet find yourself scheduling everything that couldn’t be scheduled while you were at work (right now, my HVAC service guys are doing the semi-annual tune-up of my system). But when I get back, I’ve only got two months left in the school year, so that’s nice.

Okay, back to this. I looked at last year’s March update it it’s pretty similar to what I’ve got here. I didn’t do a heck of a lot, although I was re-reading through all of the Teen Titans books that I wound up selling to my LCS. The year before, I got through a little bit more, but also wrote about the way that projects often get interrupted by distractions and other things as well as the anxiety that surrounds my efforts to try and relax (which often don’t work). This seems to be repeating itself this year. I’ve spent the last thirty minutes trying to figure out what I’m going to do with my day while simultaneously thinking about what I’m going to write for this post. But I do notice that there seems to be some sort of pattern when it comes to my annual efforts to work on/complete resolutions. First, there’s the enthusiasm. Then, there’s the interruption. After that comes stagnation.

What I mean by stagnation is that the project or resolution is on my mind but nothing seems to be getting done. I haven’t abandoned it; however, I haven’t made an progress on it. It’s like the wind has completely died down and I’m just floating along and waiting for it to pick up. Much like the still water, the notebook full of post-its that mark unfinished writing projects and the piles of comics seem to be taunting me, wondering when I’m going to get off my ass.
