I think this was the second or third Marvel Fanfare issue I bought and the reason I grabbed it was because it had Joe Staton art. I’m not familiar with Staton doing any Marvel characters–everything I have seen from him was for DC. The main story is a Hawkeye solo adventure where he … has some sort of vision quest thing in the woods and Native American spirits are helping him or are against him? I will say that as much as I love J.M. DeMatteis’ writing, I found myself skimming through this.
The other shows Moon Knight preventing an Arab terrorist from blowing up the United Nations. Its’ written by future Superman editor Mike Carlin and for a story that’s only a few pages is done pretty tightly.
Both are all right, but compared to earlier entries in this series, this overall issue is one to shrug at and I don’t know if it would have been worth the $1.95 you would have paid for it back in 1988 (that’s two comics, man). The Bob Layton pinups in the back do kind of make up for it, especially the one of Iron Man, which is gorgeous.
