Uncollecting Update May 2023

As always, let’s start with the numbers …

Physical Comics Read:  45 (146/260)
Digital Comics Read: 0 (471/471)
Trades/Graphic Novels Read: 1 (6/11)
Books Read: 1 (114/123)
Movies Watched: 6 (178/194)
TV Series Watched: 1 (56/58)
TV Seasons Watched: 2 (100/105)
Podcast episodes remaining: 185

Compared to last month, this is significantly better, especially where comics and podcasts are concerned. Now, honestly, I went through my podcasts and both binged a couple of shows I was woefully behind on, but I also took a look at the episodes that were downloaded and decided what I was going to keep and what I was going to really listen to. Since I’m not paying for them, that’s not a big deal. Plus, if I’m trying to be more selective about what I have to get through, this is one way to do it.

May was a … blur. Well, not so much a blur as one of those months where I was so focused on trying to get through work and then trying to get to a point where I wanted to start to improve myself and wasn’t in just survival mode that it sapped a lot of my energy. In some moments, comics were a refuge; in others, they were another task on my to-do list. And I have to admit that having so many around and in the “to-read” pile is starting to get annoying. I actually want to just 86 a huge number of them without trying to sell them or send them somewhere for donation. I’m sure that will change at some point, though.

But right now, I’m a week away from summer break and June has a vacation smack in the middle of it, so it’s going to be a crazy month. In fact, there’s only really a stretch of maybe three weeks in July that I don’t have plans for really anything. I’m fighting the reflexive urge to have “tasks” or “jobs” or “projects” for that time because I’ve been so burned out these last couple of years that it’s actually starting to affect my health and I’m trying to reclaim … something of myself. I guess one do-able task for me would be to not spend too much time in the house this summer or act as if I’m not allowed to go places (don’t ask … it’s a long story).

But the uncollecting keeps rolling. My hope is that by the time I return to work in August, I’ll have a lot more out of my house.
